History of the Leeds United v Carlisle United fixture

Carlisle travel to Elland Road tomorrow, looking to break their duck against their hosts. Leeds having won four of the six games played between the two sides in West Yorkshire, with the other two matches ending in 1-1 draws.

This season in League One the Cumbrians lost 3-2 at Elland Road precisely one month ago. Carlisle took the lead on 17 minutes through Scott Dobie before a flurry of goals early in the second-half saw Leeds go 2-1 up thanks to Dougie Freedman and Jonny Howson, with Danny Graham then quickly equalising for the Blues. Freedman had the last say of the game though, as 28,530 spectators looked on, when he scored his second goal of the match in the 69th minute.

Prior to this season the last time the two teams met at Elland Road was over twenty years ago, in April 1986, with Leeds running out 2-0 winners in an encounter that took place in the old Division Two. Andy Ritchie scoring both goals for the home side that Saturday afternoon in front of 13,868 spectators.

Recent respective form guides

Leeds have collected a healthy four wins, one draw and one defeat from their last six home matches, these games having seen the Whites score ten goals and concede only four.

Carlisle's recent away form however is relatively poor, the Blues having won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six matches on the road. Carlisle having both scored eight and let in eight in that run of games.

Leeds's final total of 76 points, taking into account their 15 point penalty, from their 46 games contested saw them eventually finish fifth in League One. Carlisle meanwhile ended the regular season one place higher in fourth, having accumulated 80 points from their 46 games played.
